Today, on the morning of March 13, a delegation led by Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, visited Uzbekistan.
The high-ranking guest was welcomed by the leadership of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the international airport "Tashkent" named after Islam Karimov.
During the visit, the high commissioner is scheduled to meet with Akmal Saidov, director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Volker Türk will also hold a meeting with the Chairman of the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General, the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Justice, and the Human Rights Representative of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Ombudsman).
On the second day of the visit, Volker Türk will travel to the Republic of Karakalpakstan and meet with Amanbay Orinboyev, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. He will also visit the Karakalpakstan State Art Museum named after Savitsky and participates in a number of events.
The high commissioner will meet with Tanzila Narbaeva, chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and exchange opinions on human rights in Uzbekistan.
It is worth mentioning that the delegation led by Volker Türk will be in Uzbekistan until March 15.
