The Federal National Council hosted, at the headquarters of the Council’s General Secretariat in Dubai today, the work of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the meeting of the “287th” session, to be the first time that the Committee met outside the city of Geneva, the headquarters of the Union, due to the appreciation and confidence of the UAE parliamentary diplomacy and its activity The actor during the meetings of the Union and its organs and committees, and for the distinguished relationship between the two sides, which was established over decades and was strengthened through the partnership agreement signed between them.
The participants in the meeting confirmed that the United Arab Emirates was chosen to host this historic meeting of the committee, whose periodic meetings are held at the headquarters of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva and within the work of the General Assembly and the Governing Council, given the values of tolerance and coexistence, the approach and principles adopted by the UAE and its keenness to promote Security, peace and stability efforts, which are the same values that the Inter-Parliamentary Union believes in and works on.
The President of the Federal National Council, Saqr Ghobash, opened the meeting of the Executive Committee, which was held under the chairmanship of the President of the Federation, Duarte Pacheco, and in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Federation, Martin Chungong, and the participation of the head of the UAE Parliamentary Division group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the representative of the Arab geopolitical group in the Executive Committee, Dr. Ali Rashid Al-Nuaimi, and representatives of the various geopolitical groups in the Union, the Women’s Forum and the Youth Forum of the Union.
In his speech, Ghobash welcomed the convening of the 287th session of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the UAE, and said, “We expect it to be a platform for constructive dialogue and rich discussion on various issues in a manner that serves the international parliamentary work and what it will reflect on in serving the interests of our countries and peoples,” praising the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Al-Kabeer stressed the issue of common fate, as it is the parliamentary umbrella for the parliaments of the world, adding that the parliaments carry the messages of their peoples that converge and complement each other through a system of human values and ethics that are not related to a specific geography, language, race or religion, but rather are the human values and ethics that emphasized All monotheistic religions and moral beliefs as the basis of human existence and the permanence of its survival and advancement.
He said: “Everyone realizes that communication, meeting and joint action is the way to reach the solutions that we aspire to achieve regarding these issues. These are the principles of convergence and joint action that were behind the signing of the Abrahamic Agreement aimed at advancing the values of peace among the peoples of the region and achieving their stability and development.”
He added: “From this standpoint, we are always required to seek and search for ways to spread and consolidate the culture of coexistence and tolerance to be a basic entry point for addressing and confronting the various world conflicts, the most important of which is confronting hate speech and racism and the blockade of its multiple means of social communication, especially with its borders.”
The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed his thanks to the Federal National Council for its efforts, commitment and permanent presence in the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and joint work on finding solutions to the challenges facing the world, and the Council’s efforts in developing the work of the Union, and for hosting the meetings of the 287th session of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in Dubai, which is considered a historic event, because it is being held for the first time outside the IPU headquarters in Geneva, and he also expressed his thanks to His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi for his efforts and his role in hosting these meetings.
During the meeting, preparations were made for the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Indonesia, the discussion of the political project of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the United Nations, the follow-up to the Transparency and Accountability Report of the Union, the draft of the Union’s strategy, and the proposed amendments to the Middle East Affairs Committee of the Union.
