The Ministry of Justice hosted a meeting with the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism Fionnuala Ni Aolain.
Justice Minister Ruslanbek Davletov informed F.N. Aolain about the work carried out in Uzbekistan to combat the threats of international terrorism and extremism. It was noted that the Government of Uzbekistan focuses on identifying and eliminating the causes that contribute to terrorism and extremism. R. Davletov also noted that all measures taken comply with national legislation and international legal obligations of the country. He also informed about large-scale reforms to implement Uzbekistan's international obligations in human rights and freedoms, including the prevention of torture, freedom of conscience and the activities of religious organizations, the development of non-governmental non-profit organizations and other civil society institutions, ensuring gender equality.
Fionnuala Ni Aolain highly appreciated the scale and effectiveness of reforms implemented in Uzbekistan over the past five years. She particularly noted the measures taken by the Government of the country to return citizens from conflict zones in the Middle East and Afghanistan, rehabilitation and reintegration of returned citizens. According to F.N. Aolain, Uzbekistan is one of the leading countries in the world in this direction, and Uzbekistan's experience can serve as a model for other countries.
An agreement was reached to continue bilateral cooperation.
