On the eve of the 28th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for the first time in our country, our Constitution was published in Braille. Festive mood has been bettered with the publication of another monumental document, Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Braille.
The new editions of the Constitution and Law are gifts for two important dates, December 3 - the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) and December 8 - the day of the Adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
This official publication was published by the National Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and the National Legal Information Center “Adolat” within the framework of the implementation of the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights. The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan assisted in this noble endeavor.
The official edition of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, published in Braille, serves the purpose of ensuring and enforcing the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of persons with disabilities in our country.
We are confident that the official publication of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, published in the Braille alphabet, will serve the purposes of ensuring and implementing the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of persons with disabilities in our country as well as set a precedent in providing legal library for citizens of all abilities.
Because the new law, embedded on the pages of this publication, creates great opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in all aspects of the country's life on an equal footing with other members of the society without discrimination.
At the same time, access to legal documents in Braille will encourage people with disabilities to familiarize themselves with the guarantees of their rights and freedoms.
