The National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan strongly condemns the death of A. Abdukarimov, who was detained by officers of the Department of Internal Affairs No.4 of the Department for Coordination of Internal Affairs of the city of Andijan on May 30th and was admitted to the Andijan branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Care, where doctors examined him and found that he had serious injuries, and died on June 11, despite the fact that all necessary medical care was provided by the doctors and emergency care staff.

We express our deep sympathy to the family members of the deceased. We demand that the responsible ministries and organizations take specific measures to prevent crime of this nature in the future.

As soon as the media and the Internet spread news about this tragic situation, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights addressed the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan N.T. Yuldashev and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan P.R.Bobojonov with an official letter.

This tragedy leaves none of us indifferent, as it took the life of a young man in the first place and caused endless grief and sorrow to the family members of the deceased.

The National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights is closely monitoring the situation in Andijan. We will do everything possible to ensure that justice prevails, that such tragedies will not be repeated again.
