National Consultations on the implementation of international human rights obligations have been held online.
On November 12, the National Consultations on the implementation of international human rights obligations were held online.
The event was organized by the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Development Strategy Center with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.
Deputies of the Legislative Chamber and members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of ministries and agencies, civil society institutions, international organizations and the diplomatic corps discussed the draft Voluntary Interim Report. It was prepared following the implementation of the recommendations made by the UN Human Rights Council, having considered the third national report on human rights presented by Uzbekistan.
Preparation of such a report is not the responsibility of the country. It is made voluntarily by those countries that, like Uzbekistan, consider such interim reports to be a unique tool for assessing human rights situations. This can help identify where the greatest progress has been made and where more attention needs to be paid.
During the National Consultations on the implementation of international human rights obligations, the draft National Action Plan for the implementation of the recommendations of the Special Rapporteur was discussed.
Participants noted that the election of Uzbekistan as a member of the UN Human Rights Council was a clear indication of the country’s commitment to fundamental principles and international cooperation in human rights.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.
