Republican Human Rights Contest for 2020

On December 10, 2020, the National Center for Human Rights celebrated International Human Rights Day, which was historically established in connection with the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 at the UN.

The general theme of international events organized by the National Centre was “New Uzbekistan and Human Rights”.

International Human Rights Day is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of human rights in restoring the world as we want it to be, and the need for solidarity, equality, respect and shared humanity. At the UN, the theme of this day in 2020 is related to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need for more effective recovery while ensuring the protection of human rights.

For the first time, the National Centre for Human Rights held a contest under the slogan “Digital Economy, Human rights Education and Research”. On Human Rights Day, the National Centre for Human Rights announced the results of the republican contest.

The idea of this contest came from the desire to support and encourage numerous youth initiatives in various spheres of life related to the implementation of human rights.

Secondly, the slogan of the contest coincides with the slogan of the year, which is aimed at supporting science, enlightenment and the digital economy and therefore, along with traditional nominations such as best article, textbook, has nominations related to the development of digital technologies: the development of distance education courses, video tutorials, videos, infographics, mobile applications and websites on human rights.

Thirdly, we live in a difficult time, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exacerbated many social problems, which in turn have placed the provision and protection of human rights at the forefront of the state policy of Uzbekistan.

All three of these main approaches were taken into account when evaluating the work submitted.

In total, more than 80 works in all 12 nominations were submitted to the contest. Unfortunately, in some nominations, the number of works (one or two) did not allow considering them under the terms of the contest. But in any case, their participation will be marked with a certificate.

In general, the works submitted to the contest allow us to note about the activity of students, teachers of educational institutions, civil servants involved in human rights. Certainly, the quality and subject matter of all works is very different in terms of execution technique, content, and ideas and concepts. But they all have one thing in common: the desire to spread knowledge about human rights, to promote the practical realization of human rights and to protect them.

There were many students among the participants. Their works were awarded prizes. The competition has made a great contribution to supporting young people, giving them the opportunity to realize their creative potential and improve their knowledge of human rights.
