Training for medical workers of penitentiary institutions of Uzbekistan on the topic: "Effective investigation and documentation of torture and ill-treatment in accordance with the Istanbul Protocol" continued its work on December 15.
On the second day of the event, the participants discussed the following issues related to the consequences of torture, medical documentation of torture; and reports of alleged cases of torture.
During the training, the participants studied the process of clinical history and examination of the alleged victim of torture in accordance with the Istanbul Protocol, the structure and content of the medical-legal certificate in accordance with the Istanbul Protocol, the circumstances affecting the reporting of cases of torture.
International experts shared with the experience of a number of states in the field of existing forms of medical documentation of torture in accordance with the Istanbul Protocol, advice on practical skills for filling out forms, etc.
The training was attended by representatives of the medical staff of penitentiary institutions of the Main Directorate for the Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the end of the event, the seminar participants discussed proposals for further improvement of the practical measures taken to prevent torture.
The organizers of this training were the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, the Regional Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia.
