Akmal Saidov meets with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission

First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov met with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission Albert Jónsson.

At the meeting, members of the delegation got acquainted with the constitutional reform, measures for the preparation and holding of the referendum. At the same time, the guests were informed about the work being carried out in Uzbekistan in improving the electoral legislation based on international standards and the best foreign experience.

In turn, Albert Jónsson expressed gratitude for the information provided and informed about the main activities of the long-term observers of the ODIHR mission in Tashkent (10 people) and in the regions (14 people).

It was noted that in the election process in recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE/ODIHR has been strengthened, aimed at broader and fuller provision of the electoral rights of citizens through further democratization of the national electoral system in this process.

Albert Jónsson noted that the referendum is a major event, and that he considers it an honor for himself to lead this mission to observe the referendum on updating the Constitution for the first time.

The mission will evaluate the conduction of the referendum in terms of its compliance with OSCE commitments, other international obligations and standards for holding democratic elections and referendums, and national legislation.
