Intensive preparations are underway for the 5th Samarkand Forum on Human Rights

The 5th Samarkand Forum on Human Rights will be held in Tashkent and Samarkand on September 28-29 of this year. At present, intensive preparations are underway for this prestigious international Forum, which will be held on the theme “60 Years of the International Covenants on Human Rights and 40 Years of the Declaration on the Right to Development: A Global Partnership for Dignity, Equality and Sustainable Development”.

Over the past 10 years, at the initiative of our President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, holding Samarkand forums dedicated to the most pressing issues in the field of human rights in New Uzbekistan has become a good tradition. Therefore, it is not without reason that in the addresses of our head of state, first of all, it was recognized that the Asian Forum on Human Rights, held for the first time in our country in 2018, brought a unique “Samarkand spirit” to world practice.

The V Samarkand Forum on Human Rights is being organized within the framework of the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan on the “Programs of reforms in priority areas in the year of “Development of the Neighborhood and Upgrading of Society” and the State Program for the Implementation of the “Uzbekistan-2030” Strategy, adopted on February 16, 2026.

The upcoming Forum is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of two fundamental UN documents adopted on December 16, 1966 - the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, as well as the 30th anniversary of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The main idea of the Forum is to strengthen global cooperation for the promotion of human dignity, equality and sustainable development.

The holding of the Samarkand Forum in a year when important anniversary dates are celebrated demonstrates Uzbekistan’s consistent commitment to international standards in the field of human rights and its desire to make a practical contribution to the development of global dialogue on human rights confirms.
