BRUSSELS, February 1. /“Dunyo” IA/. Yesterday, Brussels hosted the 15th EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee meeting, which was attended by Uzbekistan delegation led by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Akmal Saidov, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
The EU delegation was headed by the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for Central Asia and Mongolia Atidzhe Alieva-Veli.
The European side was acquainted with the main provisions of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy for 2022-2026. European parliamentarians shared the vision of the Uzbek side on the practical implementation of this policy document.
The current state and prospects for the development of relations between the Oliy Majlis and the European Parliament were also discussed. The parties considered issues of interaction in the context of a pandemic, with an emphasis on the progress made in implementing large-scale reforms and improving the investment climate in the country, mutual market access and technical cooperation in this area, as well as enhancing cooperation in education, healthcare, transport, energy and sales infrastructure projects, environmental protection, water resources management, rural development and sustainable agriculture.
The main attention was paid to the issues of strengthening economic ties, including the elimination of trade barriers, the development of interregional connectivity, the support of renewable energy, the provision of financial and technical assistance, and the promotion of tourist and educational exchanges.
Participants of the meeting also exchanged views on certain aspects of ensuring international and regional security, including the situation in Afghanistan and the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
