Meeting with the Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Central Asia

On February 17, 2021, the Director of the Center Akmal Saidov met with the head of the Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Central Asia (UNODC) Ashita Mittal at the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Head of the UNODC Regional Office A. Mittal expressed her gratitude for the meeting and gratitude for the fruitful cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also welcomed the reforms taking place in Uzbekistan in recent years, the successful advancement of the human rights agenda.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the main directions for further deepening cooperation in improving the system of combating trafficking in persons, enhancing the effectiveness of the mechanism for identifying and rehabilitating victims of trafficking in persons in accordance with international standards.

Another issue on the agenda of the meeting was the definition of the main areas of cooperation to further improve legislation to combat torture, build the capacity of law enforcement agencies in accordance with international standards for the treatment of prisoners.

The parties stressed the importance of effective interaction not only at the national level between the relevant competent authorities, but also at the regional level.

In turn, Ms. Mittal expressed her readiness to provide comprehensive cooperation in all areas of cooperation outlined during the meeting.
