The Fourth Forum on Human Rights has kicked off in Samarkand.
This year’s international forum is devoted to the “Environmental Challenges: Ensuring Sustainable Solutions for the Future of Human Rights in a Changing World”.
The Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov read out the congratulatory message of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Akmal Saidov, First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, stressed that the theme of the forum, which will discuss current climate and human rights issues, was proposed in the report of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28).
Video messages from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Matteo Mecacci, were shown at the forum.
Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikramov and UN Resident Coordinator Sabine Machl noted that the forum topic is relevant and has international significance.
The speakers recognized that the increased attention to protecting human rights in the context of worsening environmental problems concerns not one country or region, but humanity.
