The events of the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 15-16 September, in the city of Samarkand.
On the eve of this prestigious international conference, a book entitled “Constitutions of Member States of Shanghai Cooperation Organization” has been published in Tashkent.
This book was prepared for publication in English and Russian by the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights. It should be noted that the New Edition is definitely dedicated to the Samarkand summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
As the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted in his conceptual article entitled “The SCO Samarkand Summit: Dialogue and Cooperation in an Interconnected World” “In fact, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is called upon to become a pole of attraction without dividing lines, in the name of peace, cooperation and progress. Therefore, the number of states that are ready to cooperate with the SCO is growing every year, and this is especially noticeable in the context of the transformation of the modern system of international and regional relations.”
In the book, as a responsible editor, Academician Akmal Saidov wrote a preface. As he mentioned in the preface, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is one of the youngest but dynamically developing international organizations. Uzbekistan was at the origins of the creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has made and continues to make a significant contribution to its progressive development.
Over the past period, it has made a rapid leap from the format of an advisory mechanism to a full-scale interstate association. Today, the SCO is the world’s largest regional organization. The total territory of its member countries exceeds 34 million square kilometers. This is more than 60% of the territory of the Eurasian continent.
The total population of the SCO countries is 3.2 billion people, which is about half of the world’s population. The large “SCO family”, numbering 21 countries, covers three continents – Asia, Europe and Africa.
This collection contains the Constitutions of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization – the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, the Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan. It should also be noted that a collection with such formation and content has been published for the first time.
The publication gives an opportunity to get acquainted with all aspects of the development of constitutionalism in these countries to everyone interested in studying this topic.
