Ways of deepening and expanding the comprehensive and multifaceted Uzbek-Indonesian cooperation in the field of protection of human rights and freedom were discussed by the director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights Akmal Saidov during negotiations with a delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives of the Indonesian Parliament, held on January 28 2021 year.
The Indonesian side congratulated Uzbekistan on joining the authoritative international body of the UN - the UN Human Rights Council, which was international recognition of the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in the field of human rights.
During the meeting, members of the delegation expressed gratitude for organizing the meeting and congratulated on the election of Uzbekistan to the UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023.
During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on the development of civil society institutions, fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of parliament in ensuring human rights and freedom during the pandemic.
In this context, the Indonesian side welcomed Uzbekistan's initiatives to adopt a special UN General Assembly resolution on enhancing the role of parliament in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring human rights.
The Indonesian side was particularly interested in Uzbekistan's experience in ensuring the observance and protection of women's rights, children's rights, and support for the development of civil society institutions.
The Indonesian side expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and briefly informed about their activities. Stressing that the goal of their Parliament is to promote the protection of the rule of law, to assist in the realization of economic, social and cultural rights. In this context, members of the Indonesian parliament pointed to good prospects for the implementation of joint activities in the field of human rights, development of parliamentarism, and an increase in the role of civil society institutions in social and political construction.
Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights A. Saidov emphasized the great potential for the development of bilateral, regional and international relations and proposed to hold a meeting of members of parliaments and national human rights institutions of Uzbekistan and Indonesia in an online format for a joint substantive analysis of promising areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Indonesia.
