The Constitution focuses on ensuring human rights and freedoms

The European Parliament delegation led by Fulvio Martusciello, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for Central Asia and Mongolia, visits Uzbekistan.

The guests visited the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the meeting of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee “Uzbekistan – European Union”, it was noted that in recent years, interaction has noticeably intensified. The parties discussed current issues related to the socio-economic, investment, financial, legal spheres, as well as issues of protecting human rights.

First Deputy Speaker Akmal Saidov informed about the structure of the Legislative Chamber, activities in the direction of lawmaking, the main tasks of committees, commissions and deputies, on the ongoing work within the framework of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

Representatives of the European Parliament highly appreciated the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, the increase in the Basic Law of the norms on human rights and freedoms by 3.5 times. The strengthening of guarantees of personal rights and human freedoms in accordance with advanced international standards received special recognition.

Views were exchanged on the current state and prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.
