The delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the High-Level Event "Human Rights 75" in Geneva

GENEVA, December 12. /IA "Dunyo"/. On December 10, a delegation of Uzbekistan led by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov took part in an event in Geneva dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, reports a "Dunyo" information agency correspondent.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk. The High Commissioner expressed sincere gratitude to the Uzbek delegation for participating in the "Human Rights 75" event and congratulated President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the Constitution Day of Uzbekistan.

Volker Türk highly appreciated the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to protect and ensure human rights, in particular in the field of the rights of women and girls, people with disabilities.

The High Commissioner particularly emphasized the adoption of the Road Map following his visit to Uzbekistan in March and announced the readiness of his office to implement the assigned tasks.

According to him, the implementation of the agreements reached following his visit contributes to the further development of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other UN international human rights structures.

During the event, a meeting was also held with the vice-president of the International Commission against the Death Penalty, former Swiss President Ruth Dreyfus. She expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for including the abolition of the death penalty in the new version of the country's Constitution, the active role of the Uzbek side in declaring the Central Asian region a death penalty-free zone and the assistance provided in the implementation of joint activities.
